I purchased my 2003 Series 11 6X6 used. This was against most of my friends recommendations. Everyone said with this type vehicle, they get ridden hard, put away wet, and you'll be getting someone else's problems. Never were they more wrong! Granted, I had to replace the middle wheel bearings, worn tires, and a worn front lower ball joint, for which I felt the parts prices were reasonable. This machine did suffer from a lack of prudent, routine maintenance. But, the overall condition and ruggedness of this BEAST is impressive. The 6X6 goes places that 4X4s just can't begin to! Climbing out of creeks, where the bank makes an abrupt step that stops a 4X4, the 6X6 mid wheels dig in and power it up and over the obstacle. Carrying loads, the extra wheels prevent it from sinking in soft mud! I equipped it with a 3500# winch, which has been useful loading it on trailers, but the winch has not been needed to free the 6X6 yet. It just doesn't get stuck! The engine and drive train is otherwise in excellent condition. With 1200 hours on it, it neither uses oil, nor does it smoke.
Upgrades/Accessories: Front brush guard, front winch mount and 3500# electric winch. Made my own soft top and attached it with eyelets and bungee cords.
